Library Hours

The blurb: A recent widow named Camille falls into a strange, long-distance courtship with a librarian named Delphine, her dead husband’s first wife.

This film takes its time building up the relationship between the two women, exchanging letters and photos and finally agreeing to meet. Things get kinky and, while the erotic scenes aren’t explicit, they’re made more poignant thanks to the slow, story-heavy lead-in.

Director Jim Vendiola told Film Shortage: “The film is a revisionist throwback to vintage erotica that favors empathy over objectification, and stylistic purpose over the male gaze. Too often I find popular media’s depictions of BDSM a bit nefarious, coercive, sex-negative, or otherwise puritanical. Instead, I invite viewers to ponder the characters’ sensual, and consensual, interplay of fantasy vs. reality.”

This film received an Honorable Best Mention at Cinekink NY festival in 2018.
