The blurb: A naive but internet savvy 22 year old navigates the reality of her boring, small town Canadian life juxtaposed with the fantasy of her provocative and powerful Instagram celebrity.
This film explores the idea that our online selves can be very different to our real life, touching on the way that online sex work has become an easy way to make money. It doesn’t moralize and it treats the dramatic moments very sensitively. Perhaps the most unrealistic part of this film is the idea she wouldn’t just be deleted of Instagram for her work.
Lolz-ita was created by Canadian filmmaker and writer Katie Boland as a role for herself. It has won numerous awards in including Best Narrative Short at the Austin Film Festival.
